Since launching his own organic wine label, Atípico in 2021, Jordan Hogg has certainly achieved his aim to do something different—with delicious results. This includes fermenting some wines in what he terms “vinsitu”—in barrels outside in the same vineyards where their grapes were grown, for greater sense of place.

His compelling range of alternative expressions of Marlborough includes exciting field blends that can see pinot noir fermented with pinot blanc and pinot gris, as in his inaugural, Under the Plum Tree release. Jordan has also expanded this to include refreshing new takes on the Marlborough classics of sauvignon blanc and pinot noir. When he’s not making Atípico, this past Tonnellerie de Mercurey New Zealand Young Winemaker of the Year is also doing great things as winemaker at Rock Ferry Wines.
